WM Makes Appearance in Summer Blockbuster

I’m not sure if Transformers counts as recycling, but the largest recycler and waste company in North America, Waste Management, appears in the summer blockbuster Transformers: Dark of the Moon. OK, it’s probably not an Oscar contender, but Waste Management is in the middle of the action, popping out at the audience from the 3D screen.

The shape-shifting Decepticons are engaged in a battle to takeover planet Earth, and one of their most potent weapons is their ability to transform their appearance into that of any person or object that will give them an advantage — including, in one scene, scanning a WM collection truck for transformation. WM trucks and bins — with the distinctive green and gold logo front-and-center — also appear throughout the movie, especially in the final battle scene shot in Chicago.

“Thanks have to go out to the WM operations teams in Chicago and DC where the movie was filmed. Without their help we couldn’t have met the
production company’s needs,” said Lynn Brown, VP Corporate
Communications. “Getting WM placed in movies like Transformers 3 and Queen Latifah’s move The Perfect Holiday is an important part of telling WM’s story — and in showing how we’re woven into the fabric of
everyday life.”

I can imagine the next sequel, Transformers: Don’t Waste That!  where WM picks up and recycles all the debris left from the last epic battle. In the meantime, you can see the trailer and inside production information at the Transformers 3 website.
